Supporting Sustainable Coffee Production: CoHonducafe’s Journey with Sustainimaps

We’re proud to have CoHonducafe among the users of our EUDR compliance tool, Sustainimaps.

As leaders in sustainable coffee production in Honduras, CoHonducafe has been working with us for over a year. They leverage geospatial insights and environmental data to drive their sustainability goals and maintain compliance with EU Deforestation Regulations.

We reached out to the CoHonducafe team to learn more about how Sustainimaps supports their sustainable farming mission.

CoHonducafe: Leaders in Sustainable Coffee Farming

Honduran coffee co-operative, CoHonducafe has long been committed to environmentally conscious practices. Through the CoHonducafe Foundation, established in 2013, they’ve led initiatives in reforestation and conservation for sustainable farming. They’ve worked closely with sector partners, who share their dedication to sustainable coffee production and addressing environmental challenges.

CoHonducafe continued their proactive approach as an early adopter of our EUDR reporting tools, by using Sustainimaps to reinforce and demonstrate their commitment to transparent and environmentally sustainable practices.

Why Sustainimaps?

We asked the CoHonducafe team why Sustainimaps was essential for monitoring their coffee production areas:

“It helps us make informed decisions to implement processes aimed at sustainable coffee farming. It allows us to reduce the agricultural frontier expansion, and implement reforestation programs. We can demonstrate that the exported coffee comes from deforestation-free areas, in compliance with market demands.”

Sustainimaps provides a comprehensive suite of tools to monitor, verify, and report on forest activity. The platform’s map canvas offers data layers that help identify hotspots of tree cover loss, facilitating prompt responses and targeted ground-team interventions. For CoHonducafe, this feature is crucial, enabling them to track risks and document their compliance with visual evidence, including geotagged photos from on-site surveys.

Embracing Geospatial Data for Sustainable Operations

EUDR has brought the world of geospatial monitoring to the fore for many organisations who were unfamiliar with such technology. Transitioning to a platform like Sustainimaps can feel like a leap. CoHonducafe has integrated these tools smoothly. We asked how the process has been for them, and they shared:

“Easy and effective. Using Sustainimaps we have been able to register and verify geodata for a large number of coffee producers and conduct deforestation risk analyses. The key features we use are:

  • Data collection and recording
  • Deforestation risk analysis
  • Data storage and report generation
  • Result verification reporting by group.”

In creating Sustainimaps, simplicity and user-friendly processes have driven our development decisions.

A Partnership for Environmental Stewardship and Market Compliance

We’re honoured to support CoHonducafe as they lead the way in sustainable coffee farming in Honduras. Their dedication to sustainability and utilisation of Sustainimaps positions them ahead of the curve in EUDR compliance and aligns their production with consumer expectations sustainable coffee production.

As CoHonducafe continues to expand its efforts, we look forward to being a trusted partner on their journey, facilitating impactful insights and tools that underscore the importance of sustainable farming practices worldwide.
